Kharkiv region was formed February 27, 1932. The area of the region is 31.4 thousand km ². The population is about 3 million inhabitants. The largest population of the city area is Kharkiv, Lozova, Izum, Chuguyiv.
The largest river of the region is the Seversky Donets.
In the region there are the remains of settlements Scythians, Sarmatians, Pechenegs.
In the area there are about 15 state museums and parks. There are two parks of national importance: Chuguivs'kyi Historical and Cultural Reserve behalf of Ilya Repin and the Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve "Upper Salt." The most famous tourist attractions is a museum of pans and Kharkov Art Museum, which is one of the oldest Ukrainian museum.
