For the first time the city mentioned in the chronicles, which speaks of Vladimir the Great, who in 966 was attributed to the Tithe Church tenth of their cities, among which was the Polonnoe. In the second half of the XVI century Polonnoe received Magdeburg rights, the status of the city changed since 1938. In Polonne live almost 22 thousand inhabitants (as of July 1, 2012).
