Mykolaiv region - a region that is located in southern Ukraine on the Black Sea Lowland in the South Bug River Basin in the north and extends Podolsky Dnieper Upland. Center area is the city of Nikolaev. In 1932 the area was part of the Odessa region. Independently region was formed September 22, 1937. Bordered by the Odessa region - in the west of Kirovograd region - in the north, with the Dnipropetrovsk region - east of Kherson region - the south-east. In Nikolaev region surrounding the Black Sea. The region covers an area of 24.6 thousand km ². Berezan Island and Kinburn Spit also are in Nikolaev region.
