Rubizhne situated on the banks of the Seversky Donets River at a distance of 125 km from Lugansk. The city's name came from Colonel Don Cossacks established fast turn of the river in 1730. The city is founded in 1895 in connection with the construction of the railway, which took place near the village Rubizhne.

Population Rubizhne has more than 60 thousand inhabitants.

Today the city is the hub of chemical and pulp and paper industries.
