City Krasnodon was founded in 1913, initially it was mine Sorokin, the city received its present name in 1934. The city is located 50 km from the regional center - Luhansk. Through the city flows the river Great heater, which is a tributary of the Seversky Donets River.
The economy of the city dominated by the coal industry (3/4 of economic activity).
The main cultural heritage of the city, is that during WWII in the city operated underground organization "Young Guard". That's about it famous writer Fadeev wrote self-titled debut novel "Young Guard".
