Ivano-Frankivsk was founded in 1662 by A. Potocki magnate. The first name of the city - Stanislav, after the younger son of the founder. In the same year (1662) the city received Magdeburg rights. The modern name of Ivano-Frankivsk was November 9, 1962 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the city.
The town has more than 200 thousand inhabitants.
